Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Member of Parliament for Salima North West Jessie Kabwila has accused the party’s regional chairman Augustine Chizanja of receiving bribes from unpopular candidates in the ongoing party primaries.
Kabwila remarks come amid calls from sitting members of Parliament (MPs) to have a re-run in some constituency namely; Kasungu South East, Dedza Central East, Mchinji North and Mchinji North East.
Speaking in an interview after a rally in Dedza on Sunday, Kabwira accused Chidzanja of attempting to eliminate all female candidates aspiring to contest for MCP ticket in Central Region.
Kabwila said Chizanja is receiving bribes from unpopular candidates to help them win the primaries leaving out the deceiving candidates.
She asked the Party President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to act on the reports if the party’s dream of winning the forthcoming 2019 tripartite election is to be achieved.
Reacting to the development MCP Publicity Secretary Maurice Munthali expressed shock over the matter, saying the said district chairmen are doing injustices to the party.
Munthali said the party will act on the matter once it receives the official complaints from the affected candidates.
When contacted for comment Chizanja expressed ignorance on the matter.
Chizanja urged the affected candidates to report the matter to the party.
