Concerned citizens have obtained an injunction at the High Court in Blantyre restraining the construction of Mahatma Gandhi statue in the commercial capital.

Pemphero Mphande, member of Gandhi Must Fall Campaign Movement confirmed of the development in an interview with the press, saying the injunction has been granted by Judge Tembo.

“We successfully got an injunction to stop the erection of the Gandhi Statue today at Blantyre high Court; granted by Judge Tembo. We do it for Malawi and for the future. Our country is not for sale. We will honor our own heroes. Thank you to all that support us. Alluta continua,” said Mphande who is also Public Relations Officer for Umodzi Party (UP) President Professor John Chisi.

The hearing of the case is scheduled for November 12, 2018, faceofmalawi can reveal.

Last week, contractors stopped the construction of Gandhi statue after rumours were all over that the said grouping is planning to obtain an injunction.

The construction of the statue resumed this week.

Meanwhile government through Minister of Information and Communications Technology Nicholas Dausi expressed ignorance on the matter.
