Mangochi police have arrested a 25-year-old man on allegations that he murdered his 30-year-old friend while at drinking joint.

The suspect has been identified as Lackson Kaziputa and the deceased as Manuel Sipiliano Mbewe who met the fate in the month of May at around 2200hrs at a local drinking joint in the area of traditional authority Chilipa.

According to the deceased’s wife Finnes Allie(25), On the afternoon of the material day, her husband left home with his two friends including the suspect to drink kachasu at the drinking joint.

Whilst there the three picked a quarrel over monetary issues.

The verbal war descended into a terrible fight and Manuel was beaten till he fell unconscious.

The two suspects later fled the scene after the fight to unknown destination.

Matter was reported at Chilipa Police where Manuel was taken to Chilipa Health centre before referred to Mangochi District hospital for further medication but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Postmortem conducted at the same hospital revealed that death was due to internal bleeding.

After being on the run for sometime, the suspect was hiding in Mozambique and has been apprehended in Ntcheu on October 30, 2018 after well wishers tipped the Police.

Investigations are still underway to trace and bring the remaining suspect, Tedison Dilian to justice.

Meanwhile the suspect has been charged with murder which is contrary to section 209 of the penal code and will appear before court soon.

Lackson Kaziputa hails from Chalenga village in the area of traditional authority Chilipa in Mangochi.
