Government through the Attorney General and Registrar of Political Parties has appealed to the Supreme Court of Appeal against a High Court ruling that UTM be registered within seven days from the date of their application.

Last week the High Court Judge John Chirwa ordered the registrar of Political Parties to register UTM, a political movement led by the Country’s Vice President Saulos Chilima.

The ruling exited UTM members led by its Secretary General Patricia Kaliati who graced the hearing at the High Court in Blantyre.

Barely four days after the ruling, the Attorney General has today appealed the case at the Supreme Court.

UTM lawyer, Michael Goba Chipeta, says he has been served with notice but maintains that the appeal does not stop the Registrar from complying with the High Court order to register UTM as a Party.
