Malawi’s Attorney General Charles Mhango has resigned from his position barely hours after his appeal stopping registration of newly formed United Transformation Movement (UTM) led by the country’s Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima was thrown out by the High Court Judge.

This has been confirmed in a statement released by Chief Secretary to the President Lloyd Muhara made available to faceofmalawi reporter.

According to Muhara, President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has accepted the resignation and he has since reappointed Kalekeni Kaphale as new Attorney General.

Recently Malawians called for Mhango’s resignation for actively being involved in partisan politics.

Mhango will represent the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Rumphi Central Constituency in the forthcoming 2019 tripartite election.
