A man in Likoma has died by hanging himself in St Peter’s Anglican Cathedral Church.
Likoma Police Station Public Relations Officer, Mcliff Ngulube has confirmed of the incident and identified the deceased as Kennedy Malikita who committed the offence on Monday, November 12.
“Monday afternoon, Mr. Charles Mwaithula went in the Cathedral for his usual daily prayers. Upon entry, he was surprised to see the deceased hanging from the roof of the Cathedral, “said the PRO.
He further stated that Mr Mwaithula then rushed to inform the police who took the body to St Peters Hospital where a postmortem result indicated the death was due to suffocation.
Later on, the police established that the deceased was a defilement suspect who was reported to the police the previous day.
It is believed he committed the offence in fear to face the law.
Malikita came from Chamba Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mkumpha on the Island.
