Information reaching faceofmalawi indicates that the number of Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers killed in DRC has jumped to six from four.
MDF Public Relation Officer Paul Chphwanya confirmed of the development in an interview one of the local radio stations in the country.
According to Chiphwanya, the two soldiers died in their way to hospital after the gunfire attack
Chiphwanya identified the two soldiers as Lieutenant Aubrey Kuchemwe based in Moyale Barracks in Mzuzu and Corporal Jonathan Kapichira based at Parachute Battalion in Salima.
“Yes I can confirm to you that two more soldiers have died in the attack.. The two soldiers died while they were being rushed to the hospital after the ambush,” said Chiphwanya.
He added: “MDF has lost courageous, hardworking and disciplined soldiers who were always ready to serve to ensure that peace prevails both within and outside the country. MDF greatly mourns the deaths of these brave soldiers and their families have been informed accordingly. We keep the families in our prayers during this difficult time.”
The remains for the six soldiers will be repatriated to Malawi once United Nations procedures on such incidents are completed and the nation will be informed accordingly.
