A 26-old man in Chikwawa has committed suicide protesting against wife’s advice to quit beer drinking.
Accoding to Chikwawa police station public relations officer, Foster Benjamin, Symon Nyaude is believed to have hanged himself between the night of 17 and 18 November at Sekeni Village in the area of Paramount Chief Lundu in the district.
He died in the presence of his 3-year-old son.
“It is said Nyaude, who was a bicycle-taximan, used to pick quarrels with his wife over his drinking habits. On 16 November, the wife set out for her home village owing to her hubby’s unchanging drunkenness.
“She had left behind a three-year-old child. Nyaude took a belt and hanged himself with on his rooftop,” said the PRO.
On Sunday, at about 11 o’clock a.m., neighbours were surprised to hear a loud cry from the deceased house.
They found the child crying beside a lifeless father hanging from the roof.
Police and medical personnel from Nchalo Police Unit and St. Montfort Mission Hospital found that Nyaude had died of suffocation secondary to strangulation.
Meanwhile, police are strongly urging those in stressful situations not to contemplate killing themselves but rather report to appropriate authorities for advice.
