President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika will on Wednesday lead thousands of Malawians in welcoming the remains of six Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers killed in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.
MDF Public Relations Officer Paul Chiphwanya confirmed of the development in a statement released on Tuesday made available to faceofmalawi reporter.
According to Chiphwanya, the plane carrying the remains of six MDF soldiers is expected to land at Kumuzu International Airport at around 11:40am.
“Following the death of six Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers killed in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The Malawi Defence Force (MDF) wishes to inform the general public that the remains of six fallen heroes were flown from DRC to Entebe, Uganda for United Nations procedures on Saturday November 17, 2018.
“The bodies will then flown from Entebe, Uganda to Malawi on Wednesday Novemeber 21, 2018 at 09:00 hours and are expected to arrive at Kumuzu International Airport in the capital Lilongwe on the same day at around 11:40 hours where a military ceremony will be conducted.After the ceremony, the bodies of fallen heroes will be ferried to their respective homes for burial,” read in part the statement.
He added: “His Excellency President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi and Commander in-chief of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) will lead the Malawi nation in welcoming the fallen heroes at the airport.”
Faceofmalawi joins the rest of Malawians in condoling the bereaved family.
