Three people have been left seriously injured after being attacked by a hyena in Ntcheu district.
Police in the district confirmed the three were attacked on Sunday.
According to Ntcheu Police Station Spokesperson Hastings Chigalu, one of the victims, a 33 year old man from Kasisi 1 village, Sub Traditional Authority Tsikulamowa was attacked in his maize field while planting the crop.
“The other two, boys aged 11 and 9 years from Matale 1, Traditional Authority Phambala were later attacked within the community by the same wild animal after it had escaped from the first scene,” Chigalu said.
He added that the three are in critical condition due to injuries sustained from the attack.
“The 11 year old, Willesi Hussein, has [had] both palms maimed and is currently admitted at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital [in Blantyre] receiving medical treatment.
“The other two are admitted at Balaka District Hospital as they were also left seriously injured,” he added.
He said law enforcers in the district managed to kill the wild beast after rushing to the scene.
