Police in Lilongwe are keeping in custody three men for allegedly being found in possession of fake bank notes.
Police have identified the suspects as Luka Walisi, 28, from Mkhima village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Liwonde in Machinga, Madalitso Gawani, 26, from Chitekesa village, T/A Genala in Phalombe and 32 year old Blessings Mhango from Nthukuta village, T/A Mwasambo in Karonga.
Confirming the arrests, Lingadzi Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Sub-Inspector Gift Chitowe said police first arrested Walisi following a tip off from a shop keeper at Area 50.
He said they confiscated K10, 000. 00 fake currency from him and he also led police to his two accomplices.
“After questioning the first suspect he revealed that there are other two people who were doing the same thing with him that’s when we found Gawani at Game stores having K112, 000 fake currency and Mhango at his house in Area 49 who is said to be the masterminder,” said Chitowe.
He said the three will soon appear in court to answer charges of being found in possession of fake currency.
