A 42-year-old man died on Monday after a pedal bicycle he was cycling plunged into Rumphi River at Rumphi Bridge along Rumphi-Bwengu Road.

Confirming the accident, Rumphi Police publicist Tupeliwe Kabwilo said Trywell Sichinga lost control of the bicycle and fell into the river.

“He hit the bridge’s metal protection bars before he fell into the river.

“Sichinga, who was a business man at Rumphi Boma, was cycling towards Mlongoti area from Rumphi Trading Centre. He died on the spot due to head injuries,” Kabwilo said.

The deceased hailed from Benthu Village in the area of Traditional Authority Nthalire in Chitipa District.
