Police in Mangochi are keeping in custody a 31-year-old man for allegedly being in possession of a firearm which is in contrary to section 7 of preservation of public security act.

The suspect, Ronald Peter was arrested on the night of December 3, 2018 at Mgochi Village in the area of traditional authority Bwananyambi in Mangochi.

On this material day, Namwera Police detectives were tipped by members of the community that Ronald who has just arrived from South Africa few days ago was keeping the firearm at his second wife’s house.

Following the tip the Police rushed to the place where a search was conducted and an Airgun was found hidden in the ceiling.

The suspect was arrested after he failed to produce authentic documents of the rifle.

Meanwhile the suspect is still in the hands of the Police and will appear before court after investigations are over.

Meanwhile, the Police in the district wishes to thank members of the community for their support in fighting against crime.
