A Malawi Defense Force soldier named Sydney Njelema, 37, who was based at Mvera Support Battalion was found dead on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Chiwere Village in Dowa.
A report by Richard Mwakayoka Kaponda, Public Relations Officer for Dowa Police shows that the incident occurred on the same day at around 6:00 pm in the same village.
According to Lieutenant Dafrey Tembo from the Barracks, Njelema knocked off at 4 pm and went to drink beer at Chiwere where he never returned. He was later found dead on a path leading to the barracks.
Postmortem results showed that the deceased died of severe head injuries secondary to assault caused by a blunt object. However, the person or people who murdered him are still unknown.
Police in Dowa have therefore, launched an intensive investigation and are calling upon the general public in the district to provide tip offs leading to the arrest of people suspected of murdering him.
The deceased, Sydney Njelema hailed from Maliwa Village in Traditional Authority Chilikumwendo in Dedza.
