Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) youth cadets on Monday invaded Kawale police station in the capital Lilongwe demanding the immediate release of one of their own who was arrested on conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
In a video circulating on the social media scene by faceofmalawi reporter, the youth cadets clad in party regalia are seen attacking a police officer on duty.
One of the DPP youth cadets is seen in the video throwing a stone at a police officer on duty.
It took the intervention of one of their own to calm down the situation.
A police officer has confirmed the incident took place but no arrests have been made for the alleged assault.
The unruly behavior of the DPP youth cadets, popularly known as ‘Ana Adad’ has attracted mixed reactions on the social media with many people calling upon President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to condemn the violent act.
Effort to talk to DPP Spokesperson Nicholas Dausi proved futile.
