The United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean Pierre-Lacroix, will today visit Malawi to attend a ceremony to honour six Malawian peace-keepers killed in the Democratic Republic of Congo on November 15 this year.
This has been confirmed in a statement seen by faceofmalawi reporter, saying Jean Pierre-Lacroix will arrive in the country through Kamuzu International Airport (KIA).
“On Tuesday, 11th December 2018, the Under-Secretary-General will have an audience with the State President, Prof Arthur Peter Mutharika, at State House in Lilongwe at 6pm.
“On Wednesday, 12th December 2018 (from 9am), the Under-Secretary-General will visit Kamuzu Barracks where he will have meetings with the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Commander and Senior Management,” reads in part the statement.
Added the statement: “On same Wednesday, 12th December 2018 (from 10:30am), the Under-Secretary-General will attend a ceremony to honour the six fallen Malawian peacekeepers at Lilongwe War Memorial Tower, Area 18, where he will lay a wreath and condole members of the bereaved families.”
He will leave Malawi on Thursday, 13th December 2018.
