Member of Parliament for Karonga Central Frank Tumpale Mwenifumbo has announced the suspension of his presidential campaign activities to pave way for negotiations with Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) President Enock Chihana.
Last month, the High Court in the capital Lilongwe nullified the outcome of the party’s convention where two camps emerged.
The other camp elected Chihana as the Party President while the other camp elected Mwenefumbo as the party’s torchbearer in the forthcoming 2019 polls.
The development forced the other camp to seek court redress on the matter where the presideing Judge nullified the polls and urged the party to call for fresh elections.
Since then nothing has happened on the ground forcing some party members to threaten the top officials, saying they will leave the party if the convention is not called in time.
Meanwhile has said he will soon hold a meeting with Chihana on the matter.
