The Malawi Electoral Commission has introduced a mobile phone voters’ roll verification as one way of advancing the electoral process.
On the other hand, the process will reduce much time which a voter would have spent either to walk to the center or board a mode of transport.
All major mobile lines of TNM or Airtel are used to verify voters names if really exists in a voting register roll. The number dial when verifying your status is *2019# and enter your voters’ card number or national identity card number.
The process is that you get an SMS response that will direct you to enter your voter registration certificate or National ID number.
The final response will display the registered voter’s registration number, name, district, constituency, and centre names.
According to MEC for multiple registrants, the system will only display details of the registration centre where they first registered as this is the valid one.
This comes as MEC is conducting and implementing second phase of voters’ verification exercise.
And it started on December 18 and ends on December 22, 2018 and will cover Lilongwe, Ntcheu, Blantyre, Mwanza, Neno, Nsanje and Chikwawa districts.
