In what seems like justice did not follow its right path, a 21-year old Zambian man has been sentenced to two years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing half a bag of cement.
The Ndola Magistrate Court handed Christopher Ng’ambi of Twapia Township a two-year sentence after finding him guilty of stealing the half cement bag.
Particulars before the court were that on 4th December, 2018 Ng’ambi broke into the house of Winfred Kapaya with intent to steal.
When the matter came up for ruling before Principal Resident Magistrate Obister Musukwa, Ng’ambi pleaded guilty to the charge after it was read before him.
In Mitigation, Ng’ambi pleaded with the court to exercise leniency on him and further stated that he had learnt his lesson and that he would not engage in such acts.
Principal Resident Magistrate Musukwa said the court had noted the mitigation submitted and convicted him accordingly.
He wondered why a youth in his able bodied could engage in such acts to earn a living and further added that such cases had now become too common.
Principal Resident Magistrate Musukwa slapped a two year sentence with hard labour.
However, some people have condemned the judgment saying it is not fair. What do you think???
