Northern Region police have said at least two people have died in a road accidents which occurred on 25th December, 2018. In disparity, there was no death caused by road accidents recorded on Christmas Day last year Peter Kaliya said, Northern Region Police Public Relations Officer.

He then said the two accidents happened in Karonga district and the other one in Mzimba district, one person died after being hit by a car while chatting along the M1 road at Enukweni Trading Center.  In Karonga, another person also died after being hit by a vehicle at the Boma.

“It is unfortunate that we did not do well on December 25 because we have lost two lives due to fatal accidents. This is sad because last year we did not lose any life. It is sad that the causes of the accidents relate to speeding because drivers failed to control their vehicles,” Kalaya said

He then advised motorists and pedestrians to observe road signs as the New Year celebrations approach.

Kalaya said the police have intensified road patrols to ensure safety.

Meanwhile, the police are yet to release a comprehensive report of the accidents that happened on Christmas Day across the country.
