Incumbent Member of Parliament for Blantyre City South Constituency Allan Ngumuya has said that he is ready to say bye to the newly formed United Transformation Movement (UTM) Party after losing the primaries.
UTM held primaries in all the 193 constituencies and 462 Wards and the main showdown was in Blantyre City South Constituency where two UTM national executive committee (NEC) members namely; Allan Ngumuya locked horns with UTM’s deputy publicity secretary Leonard Chimbanga and political novice Mabvuto Missi.
But it was Missi who carried the day after outclassing Ngumuya 253 to 162.
Chimbanga withdrew at the eleventh hour after he was allegedly assaulted by Ngumuya.
Speaking after the polls, Ngumuya accused his two contenders Leonard Chimbanga and Missi of conniving to defeat him.
He alleged that some of the voters on his line were being removed during counting arguing they were young but this did not happen to his challenger Mabvuto Missi.
“Honestly speaking am not satisfied with how the primaries were conducted. Some of my supporters were being removed on the basing that they were too young but this was not the case with my friend whom I was competing with.
“If the party will not help me on this am ready to quit UTM and stand as an Independent MP in the forthcoming 2019 polls,” Ngumuya was quoted as saying.
UTM director of elections, who is also Mwanza West Member of Parliament (MP), Paul Chibingu accused Ngumuya of causing confusion during the polls.
Meanwhile UTM primaries have been marred by serious irregularities.
