Police in Mangochi have arrested and keeping in custody 2 men for the illegal Possession of a gun.

The two have been identified as a 29 year old Omar Wilson and Kassim Njembo 23 years of age who is a Mozambican national.

According to Mangochi Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Amina Tepani Daudi the suspects were arrested by community members at Mpesa village within Chiponde after the motorcycle they stole was recognized by one of the owner’s relatives.

“after being searched, an Ak47 rifle serial no: RB7581 with 21 rounds of live ammunitions was found.” said Daudi

“Further investigations by the police have uncovered that the two are connected to a series of Robbery cases and two murders that occurred last year.” The Mangochi Police Publicist added.

On May 5, 2018 these suspected hardcore criminals together with their four accomplices who are at large, killed Haralamosi Yannakis(62) a Greek national at Tambala Estate and went away with K14,000,000 cash, Samsung J6 and Two iPhones.

She explains; “Apparently the suspects are being investigated and will appear in court once investigations are completed.”

However, the Police in the district wishes to thank members of the general public for their support in fighting against crime in the district.

Omar Wilson hails from Mbere village in the area of traditional authority Bwananyambi in Mangochi while Kassim Njembo hails from Village Ntembo in the area of traditional authority Matelesi, Ngauma Province in Mozambique.
