One of the activists belonging to Forum for National Development, a pro-Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) grouping Bright Kampaundi has distanced himself from rumours that he is planning to obtain an injunction restraining United Tranformation Movement (UTM) President Saulos Chilima from contesting in the May 21 polls.

On Thursday rumours had it that Kampaundi and his colleague Fyson Chodzi have been instructed by state machinery to bloke Chilima’s Presidential bid by obtaining an injunction from court.

According to the rumours, the two were expected to report back to State House today on how they are going to execute the plan.

But reacting to the rumours, Kampaundi distanced himself from the rumours.

“I am deeply concerned with the article that has appeared in Nyasatimes today alleging that myself and Mr Fryson Chodzi we are set to take and injunction to stop Vice President Dr Chilima from presenting his nomination papers to bar him from contesting in the coming polls.

“This is utter nonsense and most unfortunate lies peddled. At no point did we sit down discussing or meeting someone to discuss this,” wrote Kampaundi.

He added: “I believe that all qualifying Malawians including Dr Chilima have constitutional right to context and participate in the coming pools.

“I request Nyasatimes to cross check with subjects that have been mention in serious article like this to avoid creating unnecessary tension. These kind of articles are sensational because they touch on nerves of many.”

Meanwhile Chilima is expected to present his nomination papers on Wednesday next week to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
