Police on Wednesday arrested a man aboard a train on the Limbe-Nayuchi route in Balaka for allegedly being found in possession of a dead child’s body.
Eastern Region Police spokesperson Joseph Sauka confirmed of the development in an interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS).
Sauka identified the suspect as James Majawa, 28, of Chimphamba Village, Traditional Authority Nsamala in the district.
According to Sauka, the body had its private parts chopped and intestines removed.
“Other passengers on the train detected a foul smell and this triggered calls to search the train. In the course of the search, the suspect was found with a dead child’s body wrapped in a black polythene bag. When quizzed, he alleged to have taken the body from Phalula in Balaka District,” said Sauka.
He said police have launched an investigation on the matter.
