Umodzi Party (UP) leader Professor John Chisi has condemned political violence among political parties ahead of the May tripartite elections.
He said political violence need not to be tolerated and politicians should focus on issue based politics.
He was speaking Monday at Comesa Hall in Blantyre after presenting his nominations papers for the presidency to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) in Blantyre.
“Malawians wants people that can transform this country to greater heights and those people are in Umodzi Party (UP). People want to hear what is it that politicians will do if voted into power come May 2019.,” he said.
The UP leader promised the Chairperson for MEC Dr Jane Ansah that his party will desist from violence during campaign prior to the elections.
Chisi remarks follows the violence that took place in Mangochi a fortnight ago where a United Transformation Movement (UTM) member was undressed almost half naked in Mangochi and some UTM vehicles were also smashed.
