A picture of a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) cadet armed with a panga knife is making rounds on social media as the party’s leader President Muntharika is expected to present his presidential nomination papers to Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) this afternoon at Comesa hall in Blantyre.
According to a report, the armed DPP cadet was captured just near the polytechnic in Blantyre this morning.
For a long time now, the ruling DPP party has been heavily criticized over its violence against followers of other political parties.
Just last month, two DPP cadets were arrested after they were captured on camera undressing a member of United Transformation Movement (UTM) in Mangochi district.
The two who were identified as Adam Masitala 28 and Rajab Assan 38 were charged with robbery with violence and insulting the modesty of a woman by a court in Mangochi.
Meanwhile, the commercial city of Blantyre seems to be tense this afternoon as the ruling party’s followers are already filled in the spaces of the city.
