As Malawi commemorates world radio day, government has urged radio stations to do their work professionally.

Speaking to journalists in Lilongwe Minister of Information and communications technology Henry Mussa said radio is very important as all groups of people can access it and offers a platform for public debate on issues of national interest.

Mussa said irresponsible journalism on radio stations is very dangerous therefore must be avoid at all times.

He asked the media to desist from turning radio stations into a battle field for politicians as the country draws closer to tripartite elections.

This years world radio day is being commemorated under the theme Dialogue, Tolerance and Peace.

On January 14 2013 UN General Assembly endorsed UNESCO proclamation of World Radio day on 13th February, the day UN radio was established in 1946.
