The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has disqualified National Salvation Front (NASAF) President Loudon Titani Malingamoyo Phiri from taking part in the forthcoming May 21 tripartite election, faceofmalawi can reveal.
This has been disclosed in a statement released by MEC on Thursday made available to faceofmalawi reporter.
According to MEC, Malingamoyo and his runningmate Ethel Makoko have been disqualified for allegedly failing to provide a minimum of 10 electors’ signatures in any of the 28 district and instead managed to collect only one district.
The statement further said that Malingamoyo was requested to satisfy this requirement by February 11, 2019.
The development means the number of candidates taking part in the forthcoming May 21 tripartite has been reduced to 9 following MEC approval.
Some the candidates that will take part in the forthcoming polls includes; President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Lazarus Chakwera, Joyce Banda of People’s Party (PP), John Chisi of Umodzi Party (UP) Dr. Saulos Chilima of United Tranformation Movement (UTM).
