Police in Machinga district are keeping in custody a 31-year-old man over illegal possession of firearms.
The suspect has been identified as Prescoat Masenjere who was nabbed on Tuesday, February 19 at around 1500hrs at Majaja village in the area of traditional authority Nyambi in Machinga.
According to reports, police at Nselema post received a tip that there was a man who has just arrived from South Africa and is in possession of firearms.
CID officers intensified an investigation and went to the suspect’s house where they conducted a search and found two pistols.
One pistol is written G1 AIRSOFT GUN and the other one is written KWC 177 CAL 4.5mm.
Meanwhile, the suspect has been placed in police custody waiting to appear before court to answer charges committed accordingly.
Masenjere hails from Majaja village in the area of traditional authority Nyambi in machinga district.
