A coal miner aged 37 in Rumphi district has died on Thursday, February 21 after being hit by a heavy stone while performing his duties.
Rumphi police spokesperson, Tupeliwe Kabwilo has confirmed of the incident and identified the now deceased as Kennedy Msiska who died at Jalawe coal mine.
The officer said during the day of the incident, the deceased was in the middle of his work and in the course of duties, a heavy stone fell on him.
“Police were notified and rushed to the scene. The body was taken for a postmortem at Rumphi District Hospital where a postmortem revealed the death was caused due to internal bleeding,” said the PRO.
The deceased, Msiska hailed from Lukhoti village in the area of traditional authority Njikula in the same district.
