Doctor George Chagaluka, head of Paediatric oncology at Queen Elizabeth central hospital in Blantyre has revealed this during commemoration of International Child cancer day.

According to Chagaluka out of the 250 patients, 70 percent survive.

He however, decried shortage of staff at oncology ward as a set back towards fighting the disease.

In his remarks, deputy director for Queen Elixabeth central hospital Samson Mndolo, said the management is aware of the challenge but was quick to say that it is working towards solving the problem.

Speaking during the same function, Cancer Survivors Quest founder, who is also a cancer survivor, Chikhulupiliro Ngombe advised cancer patients to have hope of getting better.

Ngombe said cancer can be treated if diagnosed early hence asking parents to take their children to them hospital for treatment if signs start to show.

International child cancer day falls on 15th February every year but the hospital has commemorated it on 22nd February.
