Police in Lilongwe have arrested Kingsley Mponda Mandevu Banda aged 29, for motor vehicle theft.
Spokesperson for Central Region Police Assistant Patrick Kasakula said the suspect told the driver, Mavuto Dingiliro who operates a taxi business along Area 23 route to drive him to M1 Centre Point to meet his girlfriend who is also a sex worker.
Kasakula said suspect then tricked the driver into using the vehicle for a short time sexual encounter with his girlfriend of which the driver agreed but at a fee of 3, 000 Kwacha. He then drove off with the sex worker on board in search for a better place, leaving behind the driver.
He later dumped the sex worker within Area 22 location and bolted to an unknown destination together with her handbag and two mobile phones and some cash amounting to 28,000 Kwacha.
The suspect changed the vehicle registration number from CK 5559 to BV 8974 and was arrested by Anti-motor Theft Unit police officers while driving the stolen vehicle at Mchezi police roadblock along the Lilongwe-Salima road.
However, upon arrest he led Police officers to recover another vehicle registration number CK 8274, belonging to Charles Mandala which he stole in October last year at Katete farm.
Meanwhile the suspect is in police custody and will be taken to court soon to answer the charge of theft which is contrary to section 270 of the Penal Code.
