A 24-year-old man in Machinga has been arrested after he was found with cannabis sativa in a bus he was travelling on.
Machinga police station public relations officer Constable Davise Sulumba has identified the suspect as Samuel Lipenga who has gone against Regulation 6 as read with section 19 of Dangerous Drug Act.
According to Sulumba, on Thursday, 28 February, officers at Machinga Roadblock stopped a City Tours Bus with registration number BU 7217 which was travelling from Dwanga heading to Zomba.
“Police Officers who were manning the roadblock started searching the bus and in the process they found 27 kilograms of loose cannabis sativa packed in traveling bags. This led to the arrest of the suspect,” said Sulumba.
Sulumba said the police also seized weed which will be taken to Bvumbwe research station for examination as the suspect is waiting to appear in court to answer charges contravened.
Lipenga hails from Likaka Village, in the area of Traditional Authority Nkhumba in Phalombe District.
