 A 12-year-old boy has on Sunday died after drowning when he was crossing Bua River in Ntchisi district.

Confirming the incident the district police publicist Sergeant Gladson M’bumpha identified the deceased as Anthony Christopher who hailed from Sopani Village in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A)Chilooko in the district.

A according to Sergeant M’bumpha on the fateful day, the deceased who was suffering from epilepsy left his father at the garden within the village but did not return back home until sunset.

“The matter was reported to Malomo police unit who together with well wishers started searching for the minor until on March 4 this year, when the deceased’s body was found floating dead in Bua River” said Sergeant M’bumpha.

Police reports indicate that the dead body was taken to Malomo Health Centre where postmortem conducted established that, death was due to suffocation secondary to drowning and no foul play suspected.

Meanwhile, police in the district are appealing to the general public to take of their children during this rainy season and not allow children to cross Rivers alone.
