Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi (APAM) President Overstone Kondowe has secretly left the country, faceofmalawi can reveal.

Kondowe’s departure comes barely a day after APAM suspend the vigil the grouping was holding at Malwi Institute of Management (MIM) over security concerns.

In a short statement posted on his official facebook page seen by FOM’s reporter, Kondowe did not disclose where he was going.

“When your country refuses to be a home,” wrote Kondowe.

APAM members on Saturday blocked the M1 road near MIM in an attempt to meet President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika who was coming from the Northern Region.

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) used teargas to disperse the angry APAM members and over 12 members including Kondowe sustained injuries.

Some of the police officers were also seen beating up APAM members.

Meanwhile the police have denied attacking APAM members during the fracas.
