Police in neighboring Zambia have detained a man for stabbing his younger brother to death at a time he was trying to separate him from another man he was fighting with.

Confirming the detention of 27 year old Daniel Phiri of Chiwanja village in Chieftainess Nyanje, village Headman Chiwanja Iwell Phiri said on Monday that his subject Daniel murdered his younger brother Winfred Phiri as he tried to stop him from engaging into a physical confrontation with another person over a mobile phone.

Reports are that on the fateful night, the deceased Winfred, his younger brother Goodson and their mother were watching a film on Goodson’s mobile phone when Daniel arrived and tried to grab the phone so that Goodson could pay him the man he owed him.

In the course of the fracas, Winfred held Daniel until Goodson managed to escape.

Daniel got annoyed and turned his anger on Winfred for helping Goodson to run away. It was then that he got a sharp iron rode used for making preliminary holes in hoe and axe handles and stabbed Winfred in the chest and the neck.

The injuries caused Winfred to drop to the ground and die instantly.

When police arrived at the scene they collected the body and took it to Hospital for a postmortem.
