Two people have on Sunday died while ten others sustained injuries in a road accident in Ntchisi district.

Confirming the incident the district’s police publicist Sergeant Gladson M’bumpha identified the deceased as Kachepatsonga Mabulawo, 54, of Chiwaliwali Village and Agnes Chunga, 43, of Chiombola Village, all from the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Kalumo in the district.

According to M’bumpha the incident involved a motor vehicle registration number IT 5470 Suzuki half ton and was driven by Saukani Sipedi, 34, of Chimbaka Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kalumo in the district and was coming from Ntchisi Boma direction heading towards Mponela carrying fifteen bags of maize weighing 50 kilograms each and twelve passengers on board.

“Upon arrival at Mamina Village, the rear near side wheel removed as the motor vehicle was in motion and the driver lost control due to over  speeding and the motor vehicle overturned in the process,” said M’bumpha.

Police reports indicate that due to the impact, two passengers now the deceased sustained internal injuries and died upon arrival at Ntchisi District Hospital while ten other passengers sustained different degrees of injuries.

The driver is at large and currently, police investigations are underway to trace his whereabouts and if arrested he will answer charges of causing death by reckless driving.
