Supporters for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) this morning disrupted the official launch for the forthcoming May 21 tripartite election by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).

The whole saga started just after Ansah started distributing the newly launched communication strategy to various electoral stakeholders including Chiefs , Minister of Justice Samuel Tembenu, and CMD Chairperson Eisenhower Mkaka.

Supporters from opposition political parties led by MCP parties and DPP supporters started chanting songs of demeaning each other.

The events cleated tension in the BICC auditorium and it took the intervention of the two parties to calm the situation.

Ansah has since sent a warning to MCP and DPP against the conduct, warning of sending them out of the room if the conduct continues.

Meanwhile the situation has normalized the launch of the campaign period is progressing well.

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) led by its Chairperson Jane Ansah is today launching the campaign period at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) and representatives of both political parties are attending the ceremony.

Apart from political parties, clergy and foreign delegates are also in attendance.
