As one way of responding to the calls by President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika appealing to well-wishers to assist flood victims in the country, First Discount House (FDH) bank has donated MK3 million.

President Mutharika last week declared the Southern part of Malawi as a place of disaster following heavy floods that have so far claimed lives of 54 people.

Mutharika then called upon well-wishers both locally and International to assist the people affected by the said floods.

Due to this call, FDH bank on Monday donated MK3 million, through Blantyre City Council. Apart from the cash, FDH members of staff put together relief items worth K1.2 million which the Council will distribute to victims.

The Total 45, 312 households (approximately 226,560 people) have been affected and assessments to establish the extent of damage in all the 14 affected districts are still underway. The department continues to provide and coordinate search and rescue operations as well as the provision of relief assistance to the affected people.

The Council is appealing to well-wishers to offer assistance to fellow residents who have been affected by the heavy rains.
