All white tea party turned out to be a success as K5m was raised through the event a donation to the Association of Persons with Albinism.

Mary Chilima, a wife to the vice President Saulos Chilima, organized an event at the official residence in Area 12, Lilongwe on Sunday in order to raise funds for APAM.

Speaking to the press Chilima said about 174 tickets were sold.

“We sold 174 tickets of which we are grateful,” She said.

The main object of the event was to raise funds that will help APAM to run its affairs as the body is needed to have enough funding in order to carry out its activities as it is working tireless to make the lives of persons with albinism comfortable.

“We had a visit recently from APAM and during our discussion, it was clear that one of the things they needed immediately was empowerment. We thought the easiest way to empowerment was to have funds,” Chilima said.

 

Chilima is further encouraging those who made pledges to directly forward the donation to APAM’s account number FDH Bank 1970000100725.

 

Meanwhile Chilima has been highly praised by APAM for her initiative as she has shown to be a selfless woman and that her charity spirit is inspiring.

APAM’s programming officer Pemphero Tumeliwa Mphepo hailed Chilima for hosting the event and people for contributing.

The event was also highly publicized online through the new events website www.malawievents.com which promoted the event and also encourage people to online to buy tickets.

A similar event is also expected to be hosted in Blantyre.
