The government of Malawi through Ministry of Information and Communications Technology has expressed shock over a fatal road accident at Kampepuza in Ntcheu claiming 20 lives.
The accident happened on Friday morning where a truck coming from Balaka carrying bags of Maize hit stationary minibuses and traders along the road.
The accident left over 20 people dead while 25 people seriously injured. Out of the 25, 5 people have been rushed to Kamuzu Central Hospital.
In a statement made available to faceofmalawi Minister Information Henry Mussa expressed shock over the accident.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the affected families and wish a quick recovery to all those that have been injured.
“Government is particularly distressed that of the 19 people that have tragically lost their lives, 13 are women and four are children,” wrote Mussa.
He added: “Through the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA), Government will meet costs for the funerals and medical attention.”
Meanwhile the cause of the accident is yet to be established.
