The baby that was born with its intestines protruding outside its stomach in Kasungu recently has died shortly after some people forcibly took it to the hospital in the district.
A 19 year old mother gave birth to the baby on the night of March 23 under the care of the church’s attendants, but she refused to take the child to the hospital saying her beliefs does not allow medical attention.
Relatives of the teen mother insisted on taking the child to the hospital.
According to Kasungu District Health office spokesperson, Catherine Yoweli said upon arrival to the hospital the baby was very weak.
The condition of protruding intestines is called gastroschisis, some babies have this condition due to a change in their genes or chromosomes.
However its cause among infants is not known.
