The Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has launched an inquiry into the controversial death in police custody of Buleya Lule, a prime suspect in an albino abduction case.

MHRC executive secretary David Nungu says between today and tomorrow, the commission will hear from officers from Mitundu and Lilongwe police stations and other witnesses.

This comes after the Police Service Commission refused to investigate the matter, saying it had no legal mandate.

Lule who was suspected to be involved in abduction of a person with albinism and the key witness was found dead in police cell a day before he was supposed to appear before the court.
