The Malawi Law Society (MLS) has advised that people living in flood prone areas in the Lower Shire are supposed to be relocated permanently or instead, there be construction of flood protection structures.

President of the MLS, Burton Mhango, observed that long-term interventions would prevent loss of lives and property.

He said this on Sunday at Tizola camp in the area of Paramount Chief Lundu in Chikwawa when they donated food and nonfood materials worth K5 million to 328 households.

Mhango also asked authorities to seriously follow cases of abuses on women and girls in camps.

He also called on development partners to help the people, especially women, girls and children, with tents to protect their dignity.

District Principal Social Welfare Officer, Paul Simfukwe, commended the group of lawyers for the support.
