Peoples Party (PP) has said it is disheartened by the remarks made by United Democratic Front (UDF) legislator Lilian Patel during a series of rallies in eastern region.

In a press statement signed by PP’s publicity secretary Ackson Kalaile Banda said Patel wrongly fronted lines by lying that PP’s president Joyce Banda is taking supporters for granted by dragging them into an alliance with Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

According to the statement the remarks have shown lack of understanding of Malawi’s history.

“These remarks are veiled in absolute savagery coupled with shameless lack of understanding of Malawi’s history,” reads part of the statement.

In the statement Kalaile Banda further said that Patel needs to be reminded that most of politicians that are in various parties now, were in MCP.

“She might want to be reminded that most of the remnants of the single regime are now in UDF and ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP),” pointed out Kalaile Banda

The statement further asked Patel not to involve herself in the party’s affairs.

“We hereby ask Hon. Patel to honorably shut up because her sentiments are doing more damage to her own fading party,” reads the statement.

Patel has been critizing the decision made by former president Joyce Banda to partner with MCP in the forthcoming elections.
