Students studying Bachelors of Accountancy (BAC) at Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi (UNIMA) reached out to 44 families that were affected by floods in Mulanje district.
The student made the donation on Sunday at Magombo camp in senior chief Mkanda in Mulanje.
Speaking during the donation, a lecture of law under the faculty of commerce who is also the patron of the team George Kaliwo said students responsibility does not end in class only but also being of help during disaster.
“As students their responsibility is more wider than contributing to the corporate world when they graduate or being in class all the time but also to take part in giving social and economic contribution to the community including being of help during disasters,” said Kaliwo
Commenting on the matter, the organizer of the task force Hollen Kamanga complimented the idea and urged students from other colleges to adopt the idea by being influential in their societies.
“Students from other colleges can borrow a leaf and do whatever they can in their societies,” Kamanga said.
Senior chief Mkanda, one of the beneficiaries thanked the students saying the items received will improve their live hood in the camp.
The donated items included buckets, blankets, sugar, washing and bathing soap just to mention a few.
