United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atupele Muluzi has quashed rumours hovering on the social media claiming that former President Dr. Bakili Muluzi is sick, saying the rumours are untrue.
On Friday, the social media was awash with reports that the former President has been hit by stroke after collapsing on Thursday night.
“Former state president Bakili Muluzi last evening fainted twice and this morning has been hit by a minor stroke. His personal doctor Mr Gonani has sought expert help from fellow practitioners Malamulo Seventh Day Adventist hospital and Queen Elizabeth central hospital. Family and friends are rushing there even if he issue is being kept under wraps. Some workers at his BCA residence have been turned back by his second in command security guard Edward Kawanga,” reads in part the social media report seen by faceofmalawi reporter.
But Atepele, son to former President quashed the rumours in the video clip circulating on the social media, saying rumour has been cooked up to spoil the party’s manifesto launch scheduled for Sunday at Civo Stadium in the capital Lilongwe.
“My fellow Malawians I want to quash the rumours circulating on the social media that former President Dr. Bakili Muluzi is sick. This is not true, the former President is in good health.. The rumour has been cooked up to spoil the party’s manifesto launch slated for Sunday April 7, 2019.. My fellow Malawians the rumour is not true ignore it,” Atupele is quoted as saying.
Muluzi ruled the country for 10 years from 1994 to 2004.
