Vendors in Ntchisi marched to the first district council offices to present a petition in which they listed down a number of grievances on what they described as poor service delivery by the council.

The vendors accused the council for not addressing their concerns despite being informed about the same some time back.

Reading the petition Kennedy Kapakasa Phiri said vendors are against the selling of merchandise along the main road at the main market which is contributing to an increase in traffic accidents.

“We are also against having market at Ng’oma trading center which is close to the Boma we would like to ask the council to close the market,” reads part of the petition.

Commenting on the matter, District Commissioner James Manyetera said they have tried to engage the vendors selling along to relocate to the main market.

“We tried to engage the vendors but if the negotiation fails we will engage the police,” said Manyetera.

On poor sanitation, Manyetera said the council is aware of the situation and is planning to construct toilets using funds from development budget.
