A 78-year-old man in Chikwawa on Monday afternoon died after being hit by a speeding vehicle.
Chikwawa police station public relations officer, Foster Benjamin identified the deceased as Sparrow Namizinga who met his fate at Maseya Trading Centre along Nchalo-Chikwawa road.
According to Benjamin, at that time of the accident, the deceased was on his bicycle crossing to the right side and in the proceed a Nissan March came from nowhere and hit him.
“The driver of the vehicle, 24-year-old Esnart Dinyelo was heading to Nchalo when she hit Namizinga who collapsed due to the impact. He died instantly owing to severe head injuries.
“The vehicle, registration number CK 6787, got slightly depressed while the deceased’ bicycle got extensively damaged, “explained Benjamin.
Namizinga hailed from Siselo village in Traditional Authority Katunga’s area in Chikwawa District.
Meanwhile, police are advising motorists to observe speed limit particularly when heading into trading centres.
