Grace Foundation has donated sewing machines to Lilongwe women as one way of empowering them economically and helping them to be self-reliant.
Speaking during the donation, the organization’s chairperson, Diana Winga said they thought of donating the sewing machine in order to improve the welfare of single women.
“We empower single women and guardians who look after orphans and vulnerable children economically to sustain them,” She said.
She further added that the organization is there to help women to be enterpreneurs by imparting them with different skills for them to support themselves.
Village headman Ngongonda asked the beneficiaries to use the items properly.
“If someone will be found selling or misusing the items, will not be included in other reliefs done by other organizations,” she said
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Esnart Dickson expressed her gratitude to the organization saying they will be economically stable as they will not be depending on their husbands.
“The machines will help us to open tailoring shops and help us to employ others,” Dickson said.
She further promised that they will use the machines accordingly.
Program Manager for Grace Foundation, Watson Kulinji said the organization is planning to build houses for the elderly and provide scholarship for vulnerable children.
The beneficiaries are Rhoda Kamuzu, Sibongile Kambalame, Esnart Dickson and Joyce Davison.
